Kate McAlinn was raised in New York State on her parent’s horse facility; participated in 4-H, was a member of the Cayuga Dressage & CT Club and rode on the Hunter circuit. Some of her childhood trainers included Sue Kantz, who worked for Olympian Katie Monahan for many years and with Donna Canfield, who brought many of her Trakehners through Grand Prix level. Kate relocated to North Carolina to attend St. Andrew’s Presbyterian College where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Equine Business Management. She was an IHSA hunt –seat team member competing at both regional and zones. After graduating, she had the opportunity to work for 2 ½ years with Harold Chopping of Southern Pines (a former Canadian Olympic team member) working with hunter/jumpers and traveling on the east coast circuit. Kate is certified as a USHJA Trainer and an open horse show judge.
Her teaching methods are positive. She believes in continuing her education and applying the best methodology that will meet the needs of both the student and horse. She is hard-working, honest, possesses a true love of the sport.
